Passionfruit Lilikoi

Passion fruit, scientifically known as passiflora edulis, is a vine species of the passion flower. It is usually native to Southern Brazil, Paraguay, and Northern Argentina.

This fruit comes in different varieties that are usually differentiated based on their appearances. Some are bright yellow such as the flavicarpa variety, also known as yellow or golden passionfruit.

This passion fruit can grow up to the size of a grapefruit with a smooth and glossy rind. It also has a dark purple variety that is smaller than a lemon, less acidic, and has a richer aroma and taste.

  • In Hawaii, this fruit is known as lilikoi. It is usually cut in half and the seeds are scooped out with a spoon. Some locals also make passion fruit jam which is the perfect go-to spread for bread.
