Dragonfruit

Dragon Fruit is a sweet, oblong tropical fruit known for its vibrant red skin and seed-speckled pulp. It is known as Pitaya/Pitahaya or strawberry pear. The plant is native to southern Mexico and Central America. Today, it is grown all over the world.

Dragon fruit grows on the Hylocereus cactus, also known as the Honolulu Queen, whose flowers only open at night. Though having a unique and exotic look, its flavors are surprisingly similar to other fruits. Its taste has been described as a slightly sweeter cross between a kiwi and a pear.

  • Hydroxycinnamates: This group of compounds has demonstrated anticancer activity in test-tube and animal studies.
